Evaluation Question 2 -

Evaluation question 2 - How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Social groups that feature in my film -

  • Male
  • Female
  • Young/Teenagers
  • Different Races/ Ethnicity

How the different social groups have been perceived -

In my film a majority of the time males have been presented as the dominant group in society.

Firstly, Hassan as (Dr Khan) the Psychologist. Stereo-typically the society have been made to believe that men are more likely to work and have more successful jobs than a woman. In our film Hassan is presented as the boss, and he manages me (the secretary). This shows that men are presented to be more dominant than women in this film.

Secondly, another man in my film is Parveer (The jogger). One again, this fits into the stereotype of men being more fit and sporty than women.

Women have been perceived as the subordinate group in my film, as I (the only female in the film) was playing the character of a secretary. A female playing the character of a secretary is quite stereotypical. Also having the manager as a man shows that the man is more dominating and the woman is subordinate.
